Abraham Foundation announced the first step of collaboration between the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the State Hermitage Museum, one of the largest museums in the world. Among the works loaned will be the following masterpieces: Young Woman in a Blue Blouse, 1939. Matisse painted this portrait at the beginning of World War II. His model for the painting, Lydia Nikolaevna Delectorskaya, was from 1930 until the artist’s death in 1954 his secretary, assistant and favorite model. Game of Bowls, 1908. The painting shows three young men, probably Matisse’s sons and nephew, playing a game of boules. Matisse sees the game as a manifestation of man’s creativity, and an instrument to use in understanding the codes of life. The painting was part of Sergei Shchukin’s collection before the 1917 October Revolution. The exhibition will travel with the support of the M.T. Abraham Foundation.
